PeeWee A Wins State Championship!

The Sauk Prairie Flyers PeeWee A Team won the 2023 WAHA Division 3A State Championship on Sunday, March 12th in Ashland. The Flyers defeated the Tomahawk Hatchets 6-3 in the Championship game. The Flyers may have been a little nervous and tight to start the Championship Game while the Hatchets came out strong and led Sauk Prairie 2-0 after one period of play. Sauk Prairie battled back in the second period, tying the game 2-2 on goals by Alex Kirk and Brayton Bahe. Sauk Prairie never trailed again. Early in the third period tied at 2, Logan Harrington buried a rebound to put Sauk Prairie up 3-2. Tomahawk was able to even the game back up 3-3. Then, with 6:41 remaining in the game Brayton Bahe found the back of the net for his second of the game to put the Flyers up 4-3. Michael Jolicoeur scored just 16 seconds later to put Sauk Prairie up by two, 5-3. Michael Jolicoeur found the back of the net again with 4:38 remaining in the game to put the Flyers up by the final score of 6-3.

The Flyers opened their tournament with a convincing 10-0 win over Marshfield. In the semi-finals, Sauk Prairie defeated a tough Black River Falls team 9-5. This is the first State Championship for SPYHA since 2019.
