FAQs
Q: Why was the mascot changed for Sauk Prairie girls hockey?
A: The change was made to unify all girls teams under one shared identity and to promote a culture of inclusion, strength, and acceptance. The Lake City Whitecaps reflect the power of our players and our connection to the Wisconsin River and surrounding lakes.
Q: What age groups will use the new Lake City Whitecaps name?
A: All girls teams from 10U through 14U will compete under the Lake City Whitecaps name starting with the 2025 season.
Q: Will this change impact the boys’ teams or the general Sauk Prairie Flyers identity?
A: No. Boys teams and co-ed teams will continue under the Sauk Prairie Flyers name. This change is specific to the girls program to help create a unique and empowering identity for our female athletes.
Q: Will the uniforms and logos be updated?
A: Yes. Uniforms and logo designs reflecting the Lake City Whitecaps identity will be expanded for the 2025 season. Jersey and sock pricing remains consistent from prior years at $120 for a home and away jersey and one pair of game socks. Note: The Whitecaps will be using only 1 color/set of game socks, unlike pervious years.
Q: How will this change impact tournaments and league registrations?
A: All tournament and league entries for girls teams will be under the Lake City Whitecaps name beginning in 2025. SPYHA will handle all necessary updates to signage within the rink, on the ice and with governing bodies like WAHA and USA Hockey.
Q: How does this help support girls hockey growth?
A: A unified and recognizable identity helps foster pride, visibility, and community for our girls teams. It also sets the stage for long-term growth, recruitment, and team development
Q: Was the cost to families considered in this change?
A: Yes. SPYHA has discussed fundraising options to help minimize the added cost to families that were not planning to purchase a new jersey this season. More information will be shared as we finalize these details.
