So you're thinking about hockey. Great! We love seeing new faces around the rink. We can't wait to have you join our growing hockey family!
Visit USA Hockey (the national coordinating organization) for a wealth of information. It helps explain some of the basics of youth hockey. A good starting point on rules, penalties, terminology and equipment.
At Sauk Prairie Youth Hockey Association (SPYHA) our program starts with the Cross Ice or 6U level. This covers ages 4-7 usually and is all about introducing kids to the ice and getting them comfortable being on skates.
Hockey is for both boys and girls. Sauk Prairie co-ops with Baraboo for an all girls program. Girls have the option of skating on the girls team (thru the Baraboo co-op) or they may join any SPYHA age appropriate team (skating with boys).
If you have any questions about any program at SPYHA, contact Dave Jolicoeur email@example.com
The 6U program is designed as an introduction to the game of hockey. We learn the basic skills of skating, stick handling and working together as a team. The program focuses on developing the skills of each player in a non-competitive atmosphere. Our goal is to teach kids the basics without the pressure of games and competition. In the second half of the season, we do play some games for the experience, but we don't keep score. The main purpose of this program is to get kids on the ice, teach them the basic skills of the sport and have fun! Additional information can be found at the link below.
