BENEFITS OF PLAYING ON A GIRLS TEAM

girls hockey – Sauk Prairie flyers

Female Peers: Playing with female peers may be important for many young girls to feel like they fit in. They may have fewer self-esteem issues playing with their peers than with boys who may tease them. USA Hockey’s most recent growth and retention studies found 54% of 8U girls players quit the game before they progress to the 10U level. There are several reasons for this, including the fact that girls are social beings - they may play on all-girls team because they want to play with their friends or sisters or because the boys may intimidate them.

🏒 Developing a Girls Program: 🏒

USA Hockey Dress Up – Sauk Prairie Youth Hockey

We are closer than we have ever been to being able to put a Girls 10U (Squirt) Team on the ice. Our goal in continuing to grow the game includes a girls component. We’d love to be
able to have a Girls 10U team this season (birth years 2007 &
2008).

To help in being able to make this a reality and to grow the girls game in general, SPYHA is piloting the following growth strategy for 2017-18: Any first-time new to hockey girls for the 2017-18 season will have their skater registration fees waived.

That’s right— $0 in SPYHA skater registration fees. USA Hockey registration fees still apply, and families who take advantage of this, will still be required to meet their volunteer hour requirements.

Early projections for 2017-18 indicated that if all eligible 10Ugirl skaters were to return this season, we’d currently have a roster of 8. Please help us in encouraging any and all girls that may be interested in trying hockey to sign-up today!
Also, look for an announcement soon as SPYHA will be hosting a Girls Hockey Weekend Event at the rink on October 7th.

Buying the right hockey equipment

Having the right gear is important — from fit & comfort to safety. Now's the time to go through your equipment to see what fits and what doesn't. It's amazing how much kids grow during the off-season. Consider donating your old but in-good-condition hockey equipment to your association or friends.

Read what Scott Aldrich – USA Hockey’s manager of hockey operations and longtime equipment man – has to say about gearing up for this hockey season:

So in order to increase grip strength, you must perform exercises that challenge the body to hold things. Here are a few exercises you can do starting today.
